The Magic and Grandeur of an Indian Wedding

If you’ve never experienced an Indian wedding—or Indian culture in general—you are truly missing out.

When I arrived to assist this wedding, the very first wedding I ever worked on, I had no idea what to expect. What I wasn’t prepared for the sheer joy radiating from the crowd. The atmosphere was unlike anything I had ever witnessed, and even now, I often find myself reminiscing about it. Here are just a few of the many moments that made me fall in love with event planning.

The Sangeet—a pre-wedding celebration filled with music and dancing—was my first introduction to Indian weddings, and I was blown away. The couple made their grand entrance on a golf cart draped in marigolds, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. I could go on and on about the stunning floral arrangements and intricate decorations, but what stood out the most were the people. The bride and groom’s closest loved ones performed choreographed dances in groups, and I was in awe of the talent and energy on display. The night was filled with nonstop dancing and laughter, but the most touching moment was when the groom surprised the bride with a heartfelt serenade—leaving everyone in tears.

The next day, the sun was beating down on the ceremony site, but we had 100 purple parasols to keep guests cool—and they made for some incredible photos! The reception was centered around heartfelt speeches and, of course, more dancing. What I loved most about the entire experience was how joyfully it embraced togetherness—every moment was about celebrating love, family, and having fun.

To say this wedding changed my life would be an understatement. It was here that I truly fell in love with being part of celebrations that honor love and family. There’s nothing quite like spending months (or even years) planning a wedding and then watching it unfold exactly as envisioned. But even more special? Looking around the room at all the people I never would have met otherwise and getting a glimpse into their lives.

It’s a feeling I’ll never take for granted. And I will always be amazed that this is my life.
